Pyramid Research: IPTV to Capture 14 percent of Pay TV Subscribers by 2013 at the Expense of Cable TV

(Wireless News Via Acquire Media NewsEdge)
IPTV's share of the overall pay TV subscriber base will grow from 3
percent in 2008 to 14 percent in 2013 at the expense of cable TV's
share, which will decline from 76 percent to 61 percent over the same
period, according to a Media Forecast service just launched by Pyramid
Research, a telecom research arm of Light Reading Communications Group.

"IPTV operators continue to make strong strides in gaining pay TV
market share," comments Ozgur Aytar, Senior Research Manager, Broadband
& Media. "Pyramid Research estimates that IPTV will drive a global
total of 9 million net subscriber additions in 2008, 40 percent of
which will come from markets in the Asia/Pacific region."

The research firm further noted in its report that, with an increasing
number of telcos deploying fiber amidst an increasing need to replace
their fixed telephony business, FTTx networks are expected to account
for close to 30 percent of IPTV revenues in 2013.
